Basic Info

Name: Thomas Vhen
Age: 28
Race: Nymph
Look's: Thomas’ genealogy should grant him a pale complexion but his time adventuring out in the wilderness and on the open ocean have given him a tan, weather beaten leathery appearance. His face is gaunt, his entire body is covered in muscle thanks to years of carrying heavy metal armor across the land and his eyes, while still relatively bright have lost the undying luster he once had in his younger days. He isn’t toned, never having the time to sculpt his body like many soldiers, monks and narcissists. He has green eyes and dark brown hair with a tint of red. He often sports several days worth of shadow on his chin due to his irregular shaving habits. His standard daily wear includes light moccasins used for sneaking climbing, light tan trousers which conceal metal shin guards, a light breezy fabric shirt covered by a tight fitting black leather cuirass. His left arm is covered in a relatively light weight metal that extends up to his shoulder. Granted, though it might be considered lightweight it still weighs a good eleven pounds. When adventuring he wears a chainmail cuirass and a number of weapons held to him by a series of leather belts. Usually he will wear spiked boots for climbing as well.

His face and body are covered in a myriad of scars of varying severity, the most notable of which is a long jagged scar that begins just before his left ear and extends to just under the lower left side of his lip. This scar is complimented by a smaller version that is an inch lower but only extends to mid-cheek. He stands at 6’2 and while light for his weight generally outweighs other nymphs thanks to his height.

Personality

Personality: Like all people Thomas has a complex personality comprised of his past experiences, his opinions of society and life, and most importantly, the effects of the philosophies and actions of his mentors. That said his moral compass is somewhat, lacking. Normal codes of conduct like do not lie, do not cheat are all but non-existent. He gambles out of boredom, he is not opposed to ending the lives of mythical beasts or barbarians if it would further his own goals, lying is second nature and above all else, he is a notorious double crosser, at least in the lands outside of the Empire. Layered over this however is a blanket of self loathing. Thomas\' usual attitude (the one he shows to everyone to suppress suspicion) is very charismatic, exuding trustworthiness and good natured charm that is difficult to teach yet easy to obtain if brought up in the proper settings, this however is only triggered when in public or around those he doesn\'t trust. In actuality, Thomas is a rather somber individual. Over a decade of adventuring has left him disillusioned, understandable considering the amount of friends he has lost and tragedies he has suffered. He cherishes his alone time, which he usually spends drinking and reminiscing about friends long gone. As death occurs everyday for senseless reasons, a person dying for a purpose is far more honorable in his opinion, but that doesn’t mean he wants to die, far from it in fact. Thomas has been called a coward on several occasions as he will usually do whatever it takes to save his own skin, whether that be at the expense of the mission. What he wont do, is let someone else pay the ultimate price for him. It has happened twice already, and he refuses to let it happen a third time. It is senseless deaths, like butchering children and unarmed woman that he regrets the most, and are often what trigger his long vengeful vendettas. Killing a child marks you as a villain, and a monster in his book. If Thomas ever catches someone who harmed a child, his methods make executions look down right civil. Currently his disillusionment and disgust with the ruling nations of Sprikania have led him down a dark path. He has always been at odds with the honor and noble tactics of the Ancient Kingdoms Paladins, believing their honor to be a grand weaknes that if exploited could lead to the Anceint Kingdoms destruction. As a result he has set out on a campaign of his own to cause as much anarchy and trouble in other nations so as to ensure that they are to busy to set their sights on his home.

Like\'s: Alcohol, Women, having his plans work out as he planned, trickery in general.

Dislike\'s: Royalty, ruling nations, people who are prettier then he is

Element and Nation

Nation: Born in the Ancient Nation
Town: None, he wanders from town to town doing odd jobs and disrupting the establishment.

Elemental Mastery
Primary Element: Illusion
Secondary Element: Water

History & Biography

History: Thomas was born into a military family in the Ancient Nation. His mother was a housewife, his father a respected if somewhat alientated soldier who had won a small amount of fame at a battle long past. Like all the males of the Vhen family Thomas\' father had to enlist in the military, but with one slight difference. Thomas\' father was not nearly as noble as his counter parts, in truth he felt that his family and his home were of the utmost importance, and had no difficulty imploying treachery on the battle field to ensure victory. It was a dark path that made many of his comrades avoid him, and the reason why it was suggested his son become a scholar and not a soldier. While undergoing training to become a scholar Thomas developed a penchant for lying, and lying well. After all, his father was trained to detect falsehoods, and while Thomas failed on a near constant level to deceive his father he gradually became better and better at it. By the time he began his education outside the confines of his home he was as good a liar as anyone in the Nation. This wasn’t because he was particularly brave or bright, only that he knew when to tell the truth, when to tell a lie, and when to combine the two. He rarely told a complete falsehood often times making a lie so convoluted even he had trouble doubting its integrity.

Unlike the men that came before him, Thomas was quickly bored with the confines and doctrine of a scholar. While he didn’t necessarily oppose his teachers opinions, he certainly wanted more from life. His father, being a skilled combatant in his own right taught him the basics of using the small sword, a gentleman’s weapon that was easily broken but quick and accurate. A wonderful weapon against unarmored opponents. While that was certainly appealing he quickly found himself learning the basics of illusion magic. When Thomas was fourteen he signed on to join an adventuring party. His parents were against it but his instructors felt that hard work would do him good, as he always had a habit of getting out of his daily duties. He wasn’t skilled enough to get a full share, or be of much help, but he was allowed to carry some of the gear, mostly shields and armor the adventures didn’t feel like carrying. While not exactly weak, Thomas had never had to deal with exercise like this and was often found falling asleep whenever the group took breaks. Eventually getting kicked in the ribs every morning was commonplace. The party was assigned patrol work, and it was the most difficult two months of Thomas’ life at that point. When he returned home he was still the bright-eyed boy everyone knew and adored, but he was harder, more accustom to hard work and effort. Surprisingly this just made him a better liar. Know he understood that instead of doing nothing and having an excuse, he could get away with more if everyone thought he was always busy, and had visual evidence to corroborate it. He would go help the unfortunate, which usually meant he would go to gambling dens for a few hours, meet the locals and leave latter, trying to teach the people their a handful of his trivia now and again so he could honestly say he tried to enlighten the people there.

Despite his less then stellar attendance his teachers genuinely enjoyed Thomas’ presence. He was charming and seemingly insightful, and always wanting to learn more. It was for this reason that one of his instructors decided to begin expanding on his knowledge of illusion magic hoping it would interest Thomas enough to keep the boy involved in his studies. He hung around for about a year, his ability in illusion magic growing leaps and bounds now that he could do it openly. Unfortunately for his family and his teachers Thomas’ thirst for adventure didn’t run dry. When he was sixteen he joined a local fishing company that needed extra hands for whale hunting. The expedition was over six months, and he had gotten rather accustom to sea life in the first few weeks. After he got his sea legs of course, which apparently involved a few days of vomiting until he could deal with the rolling waves. It was here that he acquired his trademark bandanna. It had originally belonged to a man named Robert Fields, an old salt at the age of 32. He had given it to Thomas in exchange for Thomas to forget the mans debts he had earned during a card game. Thomas literally had no choice but to agree to the terms. He wore the bandanna at first just to spite the man, but soon enjoyed the protection it offered from the sun, and how it made him look better prepared then he truly was. By the fourth month Thomas was accompanying the forward boats, the small rowboats that went into the water with a number of harpoons to take down the massive sea creatures. It was a truly frightening experience. Thomas had always heard stories about how massive some sea creatures could be, but descending into the dark waters to fight them, surrounded by their natural environment, Thomas understood why they spoke with such reverence. It was a truly humbling experience, even more so when the tail from one of the creatures sent their boat into the air several feet before dumping the entire crew into the water. It was at this point Thomas panicked, fear is a crippling emotion if not used properly, and Thomas did not use it properly. He came up for air gasping and spewing salt water as soon as his head hit the surface, and got a wave right in the face nearly suffocating him. If it wasn’t for a strong arm lifting him up into the newly righted boat he might have let the panic overwhelm him. The second time he was in the water was just a day out from port when the ship was forced to endure a sudden and ferocious storm. Thomas had been assigned to the topmast as look out and was scurrying down the rope ladder when the strong winds forced the ship to lurch violently to the right. Thomas was flung into the sea. It wasn’t high enough to kill him upon impact, but it did knock the wind out of him. Now had the crew not been scrambling for cover and battening down the hatches they might have noticed his fall, as it was Thomas was forced to fight as hard as he could just to survive the two hour long storm. By the time the storm subsided, he was out of strength. Fortunately, he didn’t need strength since luck was on his side, a local fisherman found him just a mile or so from shore and sailed him to the port in Electron Harbor in exchange for his promise for half of Thomas’ pay. The fisherman’s boat arrived just an hour after Thomas’ original vessel had docked. The first vessel had spent a few hours searching for the missing crewmember upon request of the crew’s majority but had given up not long into the search. You can imagine the looks on their faces when a dripping wet Thomas’ (having swam to the docks from the fishing vessel for dramatic effect) marched into the whaling companies office to collect his pay where the rest of the crew was waiting to be paid, a large, ear to ear grin plastered on Thomas' face, shining in the daylight.

He gave half of his money to the fisherman with the promise that the man not tell anyone he had saved Thomas’ life, and gave most of the rest away only keeping enough to buy a bit of gear for his next adventure. Not needing to pay rent or feed a family Thomas’ income was entirely expendable. Thomas quickly became a local celebrity among the fishing community of Electron Harbor, the common version of his story being that he charmed a whale to bring him to the port so he could make some money by turning in its skin. Thomas immediately spent the rest of his money on buying a whale skin vest to add to the outlandish stories credibility.

Profile Part II

Not two months after the fishing expedition Thomas was adventuring again, this time signing up with a student archeological expedition to an ancient ruin near the Thunder border. Everything went fine for the first several weeks until bandits, which he would latter learned only attacked the relatively unprotected students because they felt threatened by members of the mysterios Ancient Nation. The majority of his childhood friends survived, but his long time love interest suffered an arrow to the abdomen and after several days of fighting, succumbed to her wounds. It was a hard time made harder by the fact that the instructor who had taught him how to conjure illusion's was decapitated by an ancient trap in the ruins, and that was because Thomas had accidentally triggered it by leaning against the wrong wall. His teacher payed the ultimate price for him, and it has haunted him ever since. The expedition a complete failure the remaining students and guardians returned to the Thunder Nation. Hoping to put that horrid mess away from him Thomas quickly signed up for another mission. This time to protect a caravan traveling to the Fire Nation. Accompanying him was a male nymph, and three human warriors. Once again, even at the age of seventeen Thomas found himself as the least skilled member of the group. He had been given an old iron long sword that he was expected to return no worse for wear in order to defend himself, and had to carry a number of supplies that the other more skilled member didn’t have to. Thomas, as was his standard soon became friends with the three human’s. The first was a tall dark skinned man by the name of Godfrey, an ex soldier and a skilled combatant. The next was Hoffman Luis, a wonderful archer and genuinely sneaky guy. The third was Jacob Grey, he was in fact a mage, but had a deep laugh and an understanding nature. During their trip Thomas practiced constantly with Godfrey, so much so that the man often joked he should have charged a fee. All this time the Male nymph remained removed. He hardly spoke, and he never laughed at Thomas’ jokes, which put the boy off more then a little bit. A few days from their objective the caravan was attacked, not by random bandits, but by the compatriots of the nymph hired to protect it. The traitor slit Hoffman’s throat moments before the attack, and with Godfrey and Grey busy fighting multiple opponents, the only witness was Thomas, still laden with the group’s packs. This was the first time Thomas had been injured in battle, and it was lucky he survived. The nymph put an arrow in his chest from less then ten feet away as Thomas cried for help. The only reason Thomas didn’t die was because of his pack mule status. The arrow had to go through Hoffman’s pack and got tangled in the mans unnecessary amount of rope, only going a little over an inch into Thomas clavicle. It hurt, and it bled, but it didn’t kill. Before the nymph could finish him off his legs were swept from beneath him by an invisible force that he would latter discover was an attack from Grey. Before the nymph could return to his feet Thomas was hacking away at him with his long sword. It was bloody business and Thomas vomited harder after that then he had aboard the whaling ship.

Thomas quickly became a standard member of Godfrey and Greys adventures, they taught him the basics of hunting man and beast, exploring ruins, fighting bandits, everything under the sun an adventurer could do. He spent over two years with them getting to know the adventuring community in the Fire, Light, and Thunder Nations. As always, he was at the bottom of the talent pool, but his charisma and growing ability to create better and better illusions earned him a spot each time. When he was twenty it was obvious he was no longer going to become a soldier, and while his parents didn’t approve, he never had to deal with the backlash since he was rarely in the area. The mission in which he earned his reputation took place a few weeks after his twentieth birthday. Twelve men including himself and Godfrey ventured into the lair of a red dragon. They were some of the best, and put up a good fight. Unfortunately, they bit off more then they could chew. Everyone died after only twenty minutes of conflict save for five men, Thomas, Godfrey and three others. Fortunately, while they were all fighting Thomas had been hoarding as many treasures as he could into a number of bags, and tossing them into hiding spots a little ways away from the dragon lair. By the end of the day, as the five tried to flee their pursuing beast, only Thomas managed to escape, thanks solely to the efforts of Godfrey who had managed to fend the beast off long enough for Thomas to reach the safety of the underground tunnels beneath the lair. The tunnels were part of the plan, but thanks to the thrashing of an enraged dragon the exit caved in, and he had to find an alternate route, which happened to be a series of under water tunnels, escaping that area was to be the third time he almost drowned to death.

After that accident Thomas returned and grabbed a bag of loot, which allowed him to purchase some decent armor and weaponry. He still returns every once and awhile to grab the other loot stashed up there, so much so that the dragon seems to have come to terms with his treachery and finds it amusing to chase him around for a while, though the beast has passed up several chances to finish the adventurer off. It has been several years since that day and Thomas has continued to go on missions and make a name for himself. He has spent the majority of his time acquiring artifacts and weapons that contain magical abilities in order to compensate for his own geneological short comings. His skills keep getting better and apparently he wasn’t nearly as horrible as he had once thought. Being surrounded by some of the best in the business had always made him feel inferior, but it had also given him an edge over the competition. His family was killed when the Nation fell, and he has yet to forgive the Royal family for not attempting to avenge their deaths. In the Ancient nation he is considered a folk hero, giving the majority of his winnings away to the few citizens who remain, he was charismatic and brought fantastic stories from far off nations, the only contact the ancient nation had to the outside world. However, once the Royal family learned that he had been slowly amassing a criminal underground in several nations with the intent of destabalizing their infastructure, he was more or less forced from his homeland. While many still think highly of his adventures, few will ever help him in a time of need thanks to the people love of their Royal family. As far as the outside world is considered Thomas is your average adventurer, to Jackson and Ashlyn, he is a dangerous element they can't officially arrest as he has done nothing wrong while in the confines of the Ancient Nation.

I have actually edited this quite a bit. The main changes being that he is now a nymph, a member of the Ancient Nation, has a wind affinity, and is a criminal in the eyes of the Ancient Nations royal family.
